THE KINGMAKER is the epic and powerful first installment in the All The King’s Men Duet by USA Today bestselling and RITA® Award winning author Kennedy Ryan.Power. Passion. Betrayal.
Raised to rule, bred to lead and weaned on a diet of ruthless ambition.
In a world of haves and have nots, my family has it all, and I want nothing to do with it.
My path takes me far from home and paints me as the black sheep. At odds with my father, I'm determined to build my own empire. I have rules, but Lennix Hunter is the exception to every one of them. From the moment we meet, something sparks between us. But my family stole from hers and my father is the man she hates most. I lied to have her, and will do anything to keep her. Though she tries to hate me, too, the inexorable pull between us will not be denied.
And neither will I.

The Kingmaker
This book features lots of cursing, sex, and a cliffhanger, a heads-up for those averse. Also worth noting that the sequel is disappointing. The synopsis does not do this story justice. This book brings attention to climate change and Native American social, political, and environmental issues, with due diligence, while delivering a deeply moving story of whirlwind love that is tested by work and circumstance. Lennix is an inspiring and empowering character and there aren’t enough like her. It is, however, odd that Nix isn’t already in the fight against climate change considering her focus in public service and policy is American Indian studies, given the numerous ways it’s been impacting tribes. Most prominently how sea level rise, the melting permafrost and resulting land erosion are displacing Alaskan Natives and coastal tribes, but more directly how longer droughts are impacting tribal agriculture and way of life in her home state of Arizona. Despite Max’s criticism of the two-party system, it’s not the candidates who end up compromising their values, it’s voters. Just within the Democratic Party, elected officials in the years just before this book’s publishing have ranged in values from progressives, to moderates, and to conservatives who aren’t much different from Republicans. The current electoral system doesn’t empower third party voting, which is why people support changes like switching to ranked-choice voting while abolishing the electoral college. A central part of Max’s character is that he’s a capitalist, yet capitalism isn’t really challenged even though Nix’s pipeline ordeal is a result of a capitalist economy that created fossil fuel barons who use their monopoly of wealth and power to override Native rights. The author tries to present Max as a sort of Bill Gates “good billionaire” figure, but even Gates used his wealth to shape education policy in spite of voters in Washington state, and is one of many reasons people want to ensure that fossil fuel barons aren’t simply replaced with green energy barons. It’s too much power for a few over the many. When Owen defends Max in his interview with Bryce, he cites The Giving Pledge despite it and big philanthropy in general being a tax loophole for billionaires, and often a small price they pay to reshape their reputation and the world how they see fit. This is in part why there are calls to close loopholes, increase the minimum wage, regulate the private sector, tax the rich, and more to push against the plutocracy.

The King Maker
Overall I felt it was a Good book, well written and while mostly predictable there were some surprises. The characters were well defined and realistic. The sex wasn’t raunchy, or over the top. Well done, and now I am going to get book 2.

Absolutely Fantastic 👍
I can’t believe what I just read. This book has it all and is so much better than others of this genre. It resonates. What makes it a standout? 1) A great, absorbing plot line that just gets better and better and keeps the reader engaged. 2) Witty, well written dialogue and characters of depth. 3) A romance between the two lead characters that is off the charts. I’m glad I discovered this author. Highly recommended.

Predictable and unrealistic
The book was too predictable, the character took ten years to forgive her lover and He waits for her. The last thing I predicted was that when Nix went on the trip something would happen in the foreign country and maxima will come to her aid. And I was correct! What I did not put predict was that this book will be a cliffhanger and after the torture of reading it! I refuse to purchase book 2.. I predict Maximum save the day, his brother win the presidency and they live happily ever after.

a beautiful book
this was a book. not some lame, fanfiction level short story in the free books section (although those are great too) but a real, deep but not too deep, wonderful, romantic, spicy NOVEL. i enjoyed this so much. the characters are dealing with things outside of their relationship, and although the time skips caught me off guard, it really added to the story and plot line. it was realistic in the sense where two people with huge dreams wouldn’t give up everything to be with each other, even though they really wanted to. and it went to show that if you are meant to be together, they’ll find their way back to each other. a very worthy read that you should 100000% give a chance.

❤️Wow, this book is absolutely amazing 🤩 so different from other books I read. I love this romantic story of complicated love yet simple love, coming from different backgrounds/world. Thank you! I can’t wait to read the conclusion in The Rebel King.

This Story is Gorgeous
This story is GORGEOUS. The words are magic and I was completely enthralled. “If a kiss has a color, this one is the muted shades of the sky overhead, a ménage à trois of midnight and indigo and moonshine silver. If a kiss has a sound, this one is the concert of our breaths and sighs and moans. If a kiss has a taste, it tastes like this. Hunger flavored with yearning and spiced with desperation.” Lennix and Maxim both want to change the world in their way. They want to make the world a better place but their paths are leading them in opposite directions. They are both bright lights for the future and together they are incendiary. Lennix is a bit of a revolutionary. She sees the struggles of her people and following in her mother’s footsteps does everything she can to shine a light on the injustices. “I don’t know how to name the color of her eyes—have no idea what I should call them. No way are they just gray. They are silver eyes. Not just the color, but the metal. Tough and tried and smelted beyond her years into this indescribable hue. Metal and mettle.” OMG that cliffy!! I am so glad we don’t have long to wait for book two but really I want it NOW! -5 Stars!!-

Loved this book!
These books were amazing! I always end up learning from her books. These books were truly beautifully written. I loved that Maxim supported her, and championed her. He let her fly. I loved how driven Maxim was in every part of his life. This book also crushed me. I didn’t see the event coming at all. It took a hold of my heart and squeezed. It was truly a ride that had crazy ups and downs. Maxim’s father really took a sharp turn also. I loved that he and Maxim found each again. I could truly see her. My favorite part was by Lennix. “Every morning I wake up and live with purpose, decide to make this a better place, or decide not to just live for myself, but to help those in greatest need, Mama lives on. I am her harvest.” I could keep on and on about these books. Kennedy Ryan is such a gifted author. I wish I could live in her books. I would highly recommend Kennedy Ryan and all of her books.

This Book is Amazing
We are the sky and the sea, and the horizon is where our hearts meet. Every part of that world is made by and from and for just us two. Read. Devoured. Inhaled. This book set a path straight to my heart, and is holding it hostage. Kennedy Ryan has a way of crafting words, of breathing life into characters, that make them so real, so important. There doesn't seem to be any topic that she can't write in such a way as to transfix and transport the reader into the story, and she has outdone herself with this one. I was hooked from the very first page of THE KINGMAKER. Lennix and Maxim will make you believe in soul mates, two people drawn together, against all odds. They are a couple that shouldn't work, but hope and love overcome, as they do. And, yes, their story is unfinished here, but these two are strong, stronger than distance, stronger than passing time, stronger than the forces that want to keep them apart. I can't wait to see what Kennedy has in store for them, because it is going to be epic.

Phenomenal read!
Phenomenal! I absolutely love Kennedy Ryan’s writing style, it’s poetic and with purpose. A underlying message of injustice and entitlement. You feel all the feels with these beautifully written characters. This storyline will take you on a journey of fighting for yourself and your beliefs while navigating the obstacles that life is. Maxim and Lennix’s chemistry is instant and palpable. The angst is so real that you feel it and you can’t help but root for them. That ending will leave you BEGGING for more! An absolute must read!
